Reading

Cora has been learning how to read in leaps and bounds this week. This reminds me of my favorite website to teach reading - Starfall. Hop On Pop is one of my favorite books to teach reading but this web site provides the positive reinforcement of letter games and when you click on words it shows you how to sound them out. Certainly not a replacement for parent interaction but I love having multiple ways to teach the same skill. Some kids just need the repetition. Starfall has the added advantage of teaching mouse skills. Emmett has been fascinated with the computer since very early. By 18 months he could say reboot (and do it). By 2 years he had very sound mouse skills. Cora just hasn't had the same interest in computers (hmm... maybe because she has an older brother to play with!) so we are just learning good mouse control. Starfall has funny animations where if you click on a certain spot the animation does something. Such instant positive reinforcement.
